What got you into sharpening knives?
Getting my knives sharpened was a chore. Other sharpening services left me dissatisfied with the poor communication, inconsistent pricing, or over-polished edge that couldn’t cut into tomatoes.
I began learning how to sharpen from a local mentor. I started with Japanese whetstones to master the fundamentals of maintaining a consistent angle and minimizing the amount of steel removed. I upgraded to belt machines that have been customized for knife sharpening for a more refined and consistent process.
At the start, I spent my mornings picking up knives from homes. I’d sharpen them from my garage and drop them back off in the afternoon. On my way home one day, I stopped by Harmony Farms and asked if I could set up outside their store. I’ve been there every Saturday since.
Over the next 5 years I’ve partnered with several local grocery stores to make it easier for people to access knife sharpening. And I’m always looking to add more!
